Sometimes we need to know we’re lost to find ourselves.

 

Life demands a lot of us—sometimes, we feel like so much is demanded of each of us that we lose ourselves to our work or to relationships that no longer serve us. Sometimes, we get lost or stuck trying to check the boxes on our “to do” lists while forgetting that it was us who created those to do lists. Sometimes, our priorities become hidden by other tasks that crept upon us.

When we lose ourselves, it’s often time to recenter or to identify a sense of balance. In doing so, you may discover how far you’ve swerved from who you want to be and realize that your practices and actions do not align with your values. When that happens, it might be time to identify a new direction.

Therapy can help. Imagine how we would all benefit if we had someone to whom we could talk for an hour a week about whatever we wanted. And this someone would be on your side, reminding you what's important and what's just chatter to fill in the space or to misguide you. This someone would be here to guide you, to support you, to highlight your emotional responses and needs; this someone is also present to share observations and tell it to you for real because they want you to be your most authentic self. This is what a therapist can do.

My role as a therapist is to help you ask yourself the hard questions: the questions that encourage you to investigate your own habits and patterns and the questions that provoke and intensify your desire for change. You get to define who you are and how you want to approach your life. The therapist-client relationship is geared to heal, integrate, and develop a holistic self; the relationship is also important to provide a connection, a safe and inclusive space, and a collaborative partnership as you exercise courage to navigate the struggles in your life.

As a therapist, I will listen, and I will challenge you. I will ask you questions and present to you my observations as you create and revise your narrative. I am warm, grounded, and real. I request dedication, vulnerability, mindfulness, and most of all authenticity to assist you in increased awareness and ultimately wellness and health. Without your work, you cannot change.
